Career development here is
"evidence-based" That is,
you will need to provide clear documentation that you have satisfied specific
criteria to advance your career – in some cases subject to specific
time limits. So: understand what
documentation is required and when it is required, and go about providing
it. It may involve scholarly
achievement, educational effort, etc.
Understand what applies in YOUR case. In other
words, it is possible to waste a great deal of time and resources [at best]
and jeopardize your career [at worst] by preparing to meet criteria that
don't apply. For example, if you
are required to qualify for tenure, being the best doctor in the world or the
best educator in the University will not be sufficient because tenure requires
scholarship. If you are seeking
reappointment but have done only clinical care (and nothing else), you will
not be reappointed because you haven't satisfied the criteria. Please
consult the Office of Academic Affairs (773-702-6504) for assistance with
other matters or for definitive statements of policy. |
