The Forefront of Ecological and Evolutionary Genomics

Researchers in E&E apply empirical to theoretical approaches across a wide variety of microbes, plants and animals.  While some research is focused on demystifying the ever-increasing genomic databases for diverse taxa, other researchers probe the factors that define species or make use field experiments to understand species interactions and fates.  Our focus is on the importance of basic science, while we also work to see sound application of our research in the areas of genetically modified organisms, resource management, climate change and the genetics of disease.

A Vibrant Network

Students and faculty in E&E interact broadly across campus with members of Statistics, the Geophysical Sciences, and other units with the Biological Sciences Division.  E&E faculty are also members of the Committee on Evolutionary Biology, the Committee on Genetics, Genomics & Systems Biology, and the Committee on Development.  Our ties with other Chicago area research institutions, including the Field Museum and Argonne National Lab, allow faculty and students to expand the scope of their research.
