Applying to E&E
Applications to the Department of Ecology and Evolution are conducted online through the Division of Biological Sciences’ web site. Physical submissions will not be considered for enrollment. The online application opens September 1st and all materials must be submitted by the deadline, which is December 1st. It is recommended that you contact faculty with whom you share research interests before applying.
To be eligible you must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a college or university of recognized standing. You must also write a statement of purpose and have taken the GREs within 5 years. If you are not a US citizen or US permanent resident, you need to possess or plan to possess a student visa and you may also have to take an English proficiency test (for more detail see http://gradprogram.bsd.uchicago.edu/prosstudents/ps_testofenglishproficiency.html).
Applications will be screened initially by tests scores and previous academic performance, candidate statement and reference letters. Selected prospective students will then be invited to the Department for interviews with current faculty and students. This visit usually occurs in early February. Prospective students who apply to both the Department of Ecology and Evolution and the Committee on Evolutionary Biology generally conduct interviews for both during the same visit.
